Around the world in Reception

Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning about different countries and adding information to our world map. We discovered that Handa from the story Handa’s Surprise lives in Kenya in Africa and one of the children in our class has relatives in Thailand. Following on from our walk this morning, we also […]

Reception Design a Fruit Salad

This week, Reception designed their own fruit salad following on from reading the story of Handa’s Surprise. The children selected what fruits they would like in their fruit salad. Then they chose and made it, before tasting it at the end of the day. The children even tasted a few of the less common fruits […]

Vlad the flea in Year One

Year One have started their new English text, ‘Vlad and the Great Fire of London’ linking their English and History learning. So far they’ve explored facts from the story, found new vocabulary and worked out lots of tricky new words (like inferno!) and have shared the story together, practising their growing reading skills. They also […]

Practical maths in Reception

This week, we are focusing on capacity in Reception. Our task was to fit as many different objects into our box as possible. We had to think carefully about the size of each object  and if they were long or short. We then counted them out onto a ten frame to see who had the […]

Drama in Year Three!

There’s been lots of drama in Year Three this week! 🎭 We have had a visit from Rhodopis, the Egyptian Cinderella herself, and the children interviewed her with very some very interesting questions! We have also used freeze framing to help with our ordering of events ready for writing a retell next week.

PSHE in Reception

This week, Reception have been thinking about bullying as part of our PSED work. After listening to a story about a little boy who was not very nice to his friend, we talked about how the friend must have felt. We also talked about what they should do if anything like this happened to them. […]

Emergencies! in Nursery 🚑🚒🚓

This week we have been learning about the Emergency Services as part of our ‘People Who Help Us’ topic. We have been thinking about how they help us in different scenarios and the children have been busy working together to create their own emergency stories and using some drama to act these out. We thought […]

Running Wild in Year Four

This week we have started reading our new class text ‘Running Wild’ written by Michael Morpurgo which links to our Rainforest topic. It is a very chunky book but the children listened really carefully to the first chapter and could recall all of the main parts. The story is set in Indonesia so we have […]

Science fun in Reception

This afternoon, Reception explored some zoom in, zoom out pictures on Explorify. The children had to guess what the object was and say why they thought it was that. We had guesses such as ‘ I think it’s grass because it’s green’, ‘ I think it’s a plant because it has orange flowers on it’ […]

Reception Showcase

Reception had a fantastically creative time at their showcase on Friday. The singing was beautiful as were the various pieces of artwork that the children created. There was even a treasure hunt linked to one of our favourite stories.
