Welcome back Reception

What a fantastic first week Reception have had. We have been so busy making new friends, exploring our classroom and outside area, enjoying new activities, investigating, building, drawing, making, dancing, meditating and so much more. We can’t wait to see what next week has in store. 😀

Year One’s Salad Making!

As part of our learning in Design and Technology, we have been creating a salad for a herbivore from Peak Wildlife Park! We received a letter asking for our help so have considered how and where fruit and vegetables grow (over or under the ground), have taste tested and then designed our own salad that […]

Minibeast hotels in Reception

This week Reception have designed minibeast hotels for their minibeast friends. We considered the range of materials available and then the children selected what they would like to use. They recorded the designs onto a minibeast hotel. The children brought in recyclable boxes which they then filled with their selected materials. Next week we’ll see […]

Year One’s Peak Wildlife Visit

Year One visited Peak Wildlife Park this week to find out more about animals! They talked about how to classify animals (and found lots of mammals and birds!) and also considered different animal’s diets and whether this made them herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. We also studied the Humboldt penguin closely and learned that it came […]

Light investigation in Year Two

This week in Science, year two have learnt three new words: transparent, translucent and opaque. They predicted and explored this with a torch and the many materials around the room, recording their findings along the way.

Year One’s Question!

Year One have been set a challenge during science week and that has been to think of lots of questions! 🙋 They use question spinners to help and posed the question, ‘What do animals eat?’ 🤔 We then used secondary sources on the iPads to investigate, we learned the terms carnivore 🦁 herbivore 🐑 and […]

Science Week in Reception

This week, we have been conducting a scientific enquiry to find out what would happen when we put a paper towel into two different colours of water. We had blue and yellow, red and blue and red and yellow. The children came up with lots of fantastic ideas, which were recorded on post-it’s. We observed […]

Dinosaur bone investigations in Reception

This week we have been talking about famous landmarks in London and in particular, the National History Museum. Some of the children knew that there was a large dinosaur skeleton on display there. This led on to us reading the story ‘Stone Girl, Bone Girl’, which is a story about a little girl called Mary […]

Super science shadow work in Year Four

Wow, what super scientists we’ve seen in Year Four using their science, maths and computing skills! After presenting their data in a line graph, from last week’s investigation into how shadows change size depending on the distance from the light source, they went outside to investigate shadows even further. They were set challenges to create […]

Year Three’s Jubilee Snacks

Year Three have been planning to create a healthy snack to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum jubilee. They have decided to create fruit skewers and have explored existing designs, considering what they’d like their snacks to look like. Next week we will be taste testing and developing our preparation and  cutting skills to create our own […]
