Whizz Pop Bang magazine

A while ago, you received information about the opportunity to subscribe to ‘Whizz, Pop, Bang!’, a science magazine for 6-12 year olds, which would also help Hillside in receiving free teaching resources for Science. Miss McCann would like to thank those families who have taken out a subscription so far, and hopes that you are […]

Biscuit Dunking Challenge

Hillside staff are having so much difficulty in finding a biscuit that they can dunk into their cuppa, without it breaking off quickly, that Miss McCann has requested the help of the whole school! The question is… Which biscuit is the best dunker? All classes have been busy planning their investigations, thinking of factors that […]

Year One Spring Spotting!

As part of their continued science learning about seasonal change, Year One have braved the showers and been in to the school grounds and woods! They found daisies, new shoots on trees, spring flowers and signs of new life in the mud with small insects and birds. Great observational skills everyone! 💐 Can you spot […]

They tested six different materials and found out that plastic and metal were the best to carry water! They also found out which were the worst as some of […]

Year Two Showcase

Yesterday was the Year Two showcase. Children started by teaching their grown ups a dance and afterwards completed two more tasks: a food diary for science and some Valentine’s Day art. Thank you to everybody who turned up to support the children.

Year One’s Marvellous Materials

We suggested items that could be made from different materials and gave reasons as to why they couldn’t be made from other things – like a table made from jelly! We then […]

We have been ‘Super Spinners’ in STEM club this week, helping Mr Sycamore to decide which size helicopter blades would make the safest landing. We investigated different sizes of spinners and found that longer blades took the spinners longer to reach the ground than shorter ones. We learned that this was due to air resistance […]
