Around the world with Reception

This week we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. Hindus retell the story of Rama and Sita at Diwali time and we discovered that in the story, Sita was taken to the island of Sri Lanka. We found out where Sri Lanka was and marked it on our world map.

Sporting Success for Hillside!

Following Monday’s competitions, results for the Stoke-on-Trent School Games have been released, and Team Hillside have come out with some amazing outcomes:– Best-performing small school in Stoke-on-Trent! 🥇– Best-performing school overall in the Hanley district! 🥇– Stoke North RUNNERS UP! 🥈– 9 performances achieving the national School Games GOLD standard! 🏅 Another enormous well done to the team for their incredible performances, we’re so very proud of you all! 👏🏻 ⭐️

Music in Year Five

Over the past few weeks, Year Five have been practising performing notes on keyboards and guitars. It was lovely to see them working collaboratively yesterday in order to provide each other with strengths and advice on where to go next in their performances.  

Geography in Year Three

Year Three learnt the difference between villages, towns and cities. They have then made connections with South American communities and settlements. Finally, they located the capital cities of South America with atlases. So much learning!

PE in Nursery

We have been doing lots of fantastic activities in PE over the last few weeks. We have learned many new skills and worked very hard to perfect them. We have jumped, balanced, skipped and been very brave in doing so. Well done Nursery! 👏  

Genetic Mutation Game in Year Six

We have played a game of Chinese pictures (a deviation of Chinese whispers) to illustrate how genetic mutations occur in offspring. We noticed that each time we showed the person next to us a picture of our drawing, they copied it slightly different, which is what happens in cells over time.

Year One’s Multi skills

We’ve been practising our multi skills in PE! Dan taught us and reminded us about a range of skills relating to jumps, balancing, throwing and catching and we got to put ourselves to the test! Well done everyone! 🏆

Year Three enjoyed a day at Chester Zoo

Year Three had a fantastic day consolidating their learning about South America and the rainforest in Geography and observing animals in real life in Science. Nursery’s First Time Exploring the Woods 🌳

We have had lots of fun in the woods this week! 🌳  It was was exciting to wear our forest school clothes and go exploring in the forest! Miss Hewitt and Mrs Snow were so impressed with how sensible and enthusiastic we were! 🤩 Super learning and adventuring Nursery! 👏

Year Four visit to Chester

Year Four had a wonderful day in Chester, learning all about The Romans. They enjoyed participating in a Roman workshop, exploring the museum and being trained as Roman Soldiers while out on parade around Chester. A fantastic day had by all!
