Soup Chefs in Year Five

As part of our DT learning on culture and seasonality, this week we have made and evaluated our own winter vegetable soups. We carefully practised different forms of peeling and cutting safely to prepare our soup. Also, we tasted and evaluated our creations.

School closed today – Friday 10th March

Due to heavy snow fall overnight, the condition of Field Avenue and surrounding roads, the continuing snowfall forecast for the morning, we have taken the decision, for health and safety reasons to close Hillside today. The decision has been made for the safety of parents, our children and staff.

World Book Week at Hillside

Year Three – We are Hobbits!

With World Book Week, we discovered The Hobbit from J.R.R Tolkien and inferred with how a Hobbit could live in the outdoors and what he would do in the Shire. This has helped us with our non-chronological report. We also completed our Woodland hunt finding clues along the Green trail. We were really busy Hobbits.

Book Week in Year Four

Year Four have shown themselves as super authors this week, when writing their adventure stories for our Book Week writing competition. They have been focussing on using ambitious adjectives for description, a range of fronted adverbials to give variety to their sentences and using a wider range of punctuation accurately.

Studying Chronology in Year Five

This week in Year Five we have been continuing to learn about the Anglo-Saxons. Our focus during the lesson was to consider how Pagan beliefs were overcome with a wave of Christianity in Anglo-Saxon society. We noted key changes on a timeline where we closely considered how changes in time were represented.    

Pottery in Year Two

Year Two have continued their learning about pottery and Clarice Cliff by experimenting with clay. Later in the week, they will use the skills they have learnt to make their own pot.
