This week Year Three have been focusing on poetry. We have been exploring and writing our own Haiku and kennings poems. This week, Year Five have been writing a non-chronological based on their own dragons inspired by the book ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. Throughout the writing process, they have proved they are experts in the study of dragons. Also, they have been aspirational to include complex SPaG techniques such as parenthesis and relative clauses.
Year Two visited Gladstone Pottery Museum this week. They explored the history of the pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent and learnt about the influential artist Clarice Cliff.
In PSHE, the children have been learning about the qualities of a good friend and how to create positive relationships with others. We then held the BAFAs (best at friendship awards). All of the children received a certificate explains why they were a good friend.
Year Two have been learning about length and height in maths. This week, they went outside to measure each other and the lines on the playground. They measured in centimetres and metres using a metre stick.
This week the children have learnt about St George’s Day, the have listened to the story, looked at the flag of England and found out different ways people celebrate this day. This week, Reception read a story called ‘A walk in Paris’. There were so many wonderful features that we learned about including the Eiffel Tower. Year Three have been learning all about how bodies were mummified in ancient Egypt. They have even had a go themselves using tomatoes!
